Abstract

Diffuse interstitial lung disease (DILD) encompass a wide variety of respiratory disorders with common clinical, radiological and functional manifestations affecting interstitial lung alveolar structures. The DILD vary in course and outcome and in some cases may respond to anti-inflammatory and / or immunosuppressive therapies. Immunosuppression is defined as the inhibition of one or more components of the immune system, which may arise as a result of an underlying disease or intentionally using drugs (called immunosuppressants) or other treatments such as radiation or surgery (removal of the spleen), with the purpose of preventing or treating transplant rejection or autoimmune disease.
