Abstract

This article discusses the Proto-Slavic words *marьnъ, *mariti, *mara, and other derivatives from the root *mar‑ whose etymological and word-formation relations are puzzling and are interpreted differently by various authors. Departing from the meanings of individual words, the article draws the most plausible picture of their etymological and word-formation relations.
