Abstract

Abstract: Rapidly transported fucose‐labelled glycoproteins from axons of rabbit retinal ganglion cells were solubilized with nonionic detergents. The labelled glycoproteins carried hydrophobic sites as revealed by a reversible binding to a hydrophobic matrix. A major portion of the labelled glycoproteins carried α‐D‐mannopyranoside (or glucopyranoside) residues, as shown by a specific interaction with the lectin from Lens culinaris. Three major groups of labelled polypeptides capable of binding to the lectin are described.
