Abstract

1. 1. Cytoplasmic ribosomes and cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins have been isolated from the following representatives of the Annelida: Arenicola marina, Nereis virens, Allolobophora rosea, Eisenia foetida and from mixed populations containing Tubifex sp. and Limnodrilus sp. 2. 2. Characterization of ribosomal proteins by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis reveals substantial differences in protein composition of the cytoplasmic ribosomes between most of the worms studied. 3. 3. Overall similarity between corresponding protein patterns was only observed between species which belong to the same annelid family.
