Abstract
1. 1. The rat perineal levator ani (LA) and bulbocavernosus (BC) muscles are homogeneously type 2B fibers as determined by Ca, Mg-ATPase activity. 2. 2. The LA and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles contain similar quantities of creatine kinase and several glycolytic enzymes despite significant differences in fiber composition. 3. 3. The LA muscles synthesizes and accumulates only the fast isoforms of protein C, myosin heavy chain and myosin light chains.
