Abstract

The pharate pupal stage of Plodia interpunctella was divided into different age groups, A 2–A 6. The A 1 group precedes the larval-pupal apolysis. The point of determination for further development was fixed by ligation ( A 3 A 4 ). In all age groups the protein pattern of the haemolymph was specified. Gels of different percentages allowed the demonstration of 30 protein bands and their changes throughout the age groups. After ecdysone secretion one can find remarkable changes in the protein pattern at the established determination point ( A 3 A 4 ). The interpretation of the results supplies the basis for further investigation of the metamorphosis. The isolation and the radioactive labelling of the haemolymph proteins will help to clarify their function.
