Abstract

Modern tools for enzyme discovery and protein engineering allow a rather easy access to novel and process-designed biocatalysts. This is fostered by the rapidly increasing number of sequences and structures in databases, a range of molecular biology tools for mutant library creation in combination with sophisticated bioinformatics tools and modelling software as well as advanced high-throughput screening formats ranging from microtiter plate assays over cell sorting to microfluidic systems.
