Abstract
The present work has been aimed at studying the protective mechanism of the new inhibited thin-film coatings NGM-ML and Movil'. Both products are designed as corrosion preventives for use in enclosed spaces ("pockets") in the bodies of Zhiguli automobiles. According to the classification described in [2], these products are assigned to groups ML-2 and ML-I, respectively. It has been established [3-5] that the protective mechanism of petroleum-based rust preventives include three stages: displacement of water and corrosive electrolytes from the metal surface; formation of adsorbed/chemisorbed films on the metal surface; and formation of a protective base coat as a result of adhesive/cohesive forces.
