Abstract

Objective To observe the protective effects of Salvianolate on visual field after glaucoma filtration surgery. Methods During the research, 65 eyes of 65 cases with acute angle-closure glaucoma from Sep.2012 to Aug.2013 were selected. They were treated with trabeculectomy to lower intraocular pressure (IOP). The patients were divided into two groups randomly.Twenty-eight cases in group A were treated with conventional medications for glaucoma treatment, while 37 patients in group B were treated with conventional medication combined with Salvianolate 200 mg intravenous drip per day for 2 weeks. The stadus of the IOP and visual field of patients in two groups were observed and analyzed statistically before surgery, 1 week and 3 months after surgery. Results The IOPs of two groups at 1 week and 3 months after the operation were significantly lower than that before the operation. The IOPs between the two groups had no statistically significant difference(t=0.325, 0.393, 0.924; P=0.746, 0.698, 0.359). In two groups , the mean visual field defect at 1 week and 3 months after the operation were less than that before the operation. The mean visual field defect at 1 week and 3 months after the operation in group B were less than that in group A(t=2.110, 3.557; P=0.039, 0.001). In group A, visual field defect had no statistically significant difference among before the surgery, 1 week or 3 months after surgery. In group B, visual field defect at 3 months after surgery was less than that at 1 week after surgery and before the operation. At 1 week after the surgery, visual field defect had no statistically significant difference between group A or group B. At 3 months after surgery, visual field defect in group B was less than that in group A(t=3.557; P=0.001). Conclusion Salvianolate can improve the visual field and delay the visual field damage in glaucoma patients after surger. Key words: Glaucoma, after surgery; Salvianolate; Visual field defect
