Abstract
Abstract: Neurodegenerative diseases are a group of disorders characterized by the progressive degeneration of the neurons and function of the nervous system. These diseases typically result in a decline in cognitive, motor, or sensory functions and often lead to disability in many cases. Rotenone is a naturally occurring compound isolated from the roots and stems of several plants that induced neurotoxicity by inhibiting the mitochondrial complex I resulting in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and induced the ROS generation. Natural plant products can play an important role in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. This review focusses on the therapeutic potential of natural products and their bioavailability to exert neuroprotective effects against the neurodegenerative diseases.
