Abstract

Objective To observe the protective effect of Minocycline in chronic ocular hypertenstion models. Methods Forty-eight rabbits were randomly divided into three groups:control, chronic ocular hypertension, and Minocycline group. The right eye of chronic ocular hypertension and Minocycline group were used to build chronic ocular hypertension model by posterior chamber injection in right eye of 0.l ml of 3g/L Carbomer solution. After modeling,Minocycline group rabbits took Minocycline every day 50mg/kg.The intraocular pressure (IOP) was monitored every week at the same time point. The retinal thickness was measured by OCT at 28 days after feed the medicine. Then the animals were sacrificed. The contents of malondiadehyde (MDA),superoxide dismutase (SOD) and NO in retina were assayed and compared among groups.Result The IOP in chronic ocular hypertension, and Minocycline group increased and they had no obvious difference (P >0.05).The retinal thickness and the level of SOD in retinal tissue in chronic ocular hypertension group was markedly lower than that in Minocycline group (P <0.05),the content of MDA and NO were obviously higher than that in Minocycline group (P <0.05).Conclusions Minocycline can protect retinal neurons by maintaining regulating retinal thickness and production of SOD,MDA,NO in chronic ocular hypertension rabbits model.
