Abstract

The lead equivalence of structural barriers surrounding 203 diagnostic x-ray installations was measured and adequacy determined by comparison with the lead thickness specified by the ICRP for distance, nature of occupancy and workload applicable to each installation, assuming operation at 125 kVp. Barrier deficiencies were found in 9%. Protective clothing was also examined: 16 of 314 gloves and 4 of 337 aprons were defective.
