Abstract

This chapter discusses the protection of wild animals, plants, and birds under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and other species protection provisions, including the Protection of Badgers Act 1992 and the Conservation of Seals Act 1970. It also considers the application of the Hedgerow Regulations 1997; tree preservation orders; and the licensing system under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, by which licenses to kill, take, or disturb animals and birds can be authorised by the public bodies.
