Abstract

Any war by its nature is immoral. At the moment when it is "invading" the peaceful life, the population and leaders of the state have the right and the obligation to defend themselves, even using force of arms to neutralize the aggressors. Defending the homeland is the right and duty of every conscious and responsible government. Our Ukrainian soldiers, defending innocent lives from the attacker, are doing their sacred civic duty: they stand up for goodness, truth and justice. Many soldiers gave their lives for these values. During the war the Church and the human mind emphasize the constant action of the moral law. Even in a war zone, human traits should be preserved. The article, based on the Official Documents of the Catholic Church, professional materials, interviews, made a moral and theological assessment of military action in the context of protection of the homeland.
