Abstract

Series compensation (SC) is one of the effective measures to increase the transmission capacity of 1000kV Ultra High Voltage (UHV) transmission system. Study on UHV SC technique is an urgently requirement along with the development of UHV transmission system. This paper will focus on the calculation and analysis of lightning withstand capability of SC station in order to confirm insulation level of SC Banks, as well as protection measures of lightning surge. The main connection of SC banks is selected in this paper, and the parameters of relevant equipment are also determined. Simulation models are built up separately on diverse locations for SC installation and under different operation conditions. Lightning fault probability of SC station is studied by the interval combination method. An evaluation on the performances between protection schemes of Lead-in Line Lead-in line protection and MOAs in station is carried out. Furthermore, a reasonable solution is proposed for the protection scheme of lightning intruded wave in UHV SC station.
