Abstract

A RADIOPROTECTIVE effect of adenosine triphosphate has been described by Langendorff et al.1, but the inorganic condensed phosphates do not appear to have been studied previously in this connexion. We have found that sodium pyrophosphate, the linear tripolyphosphate and the cyclic trimeta- and tetrametaphosphates markedly reduce the mortality in mice due to X-rays when injected intraperitoneally in neutral solution, shortly before exposure.
