Maintaining the security of the airport and its immediate surroundings is one of the most effective and available means of defense against MANPADS. Increased surveillance and patrols in the immediate vicinity of the airport, and increased observation of approach and landing corridors can identify a threat. Security measures focus on highrisk areas where arriving and departing aircraft are most vulnerable to attacks. The increase in the number of flight operations is associated with an increasing number of passengers carried. Therefore, airports must be ready for continuous upgrades and improvements to improve safety, space as well as comfort for travelers.
