Abstract

Female genital mutilation (FGM) presents important risks to the physical and mental health and wellbeing of girls and women affected. The practice of FGM is still an issue in the UK depite being despite being illegal. School nurses can play an important role in raising awareness on the subject, protecting at-risk girls and young women, and offer them the support they need. This article looks at the types of FGM, their risks, and the role school nurses can play in raising awareness.
