Abstract
Abstract Vacuum collapse causes many accidents involving equipment with low pressure ratings such as atmospheric storage tanks and bins. This paper presents methods to establish the appropriate relief capacities and specify pressure relief devices to protect atmospheric storage tanks and other similar equipment against this hazard. Calculations are based on simple heat balance and fluid flow calculations.
