Abstract

Transrectal prostate ultrasound (TRUS) is an important method for the evaluation of patients with palpable prostate abnormalities. Knowledge of the appearance of normal and benign conditions of the prostate on ultrasound is required for the identification of prostatic lesions that are suspected of being carcinomatous. The exact role of TRUS in the evaluation of benign disease of the prostate remains under investigation.
