Abstract

This article discusses the potential sources of knowledge for customizing transportable natural language query systems and provides a rough quantification of the importance of each source. The major potential knowledge source would be a very large, sophisticated dictionary. Inferences from database content are much less important. The human database expert is the only source for a considerable amount of the required information.
