Abstract

Many philosophers of action are attracted to view that kind of agency that meets presuppositions of our ethical perspective may also be understood as belonging wholly to natural order, in accordance with what Timothy O'Connor calls the Emerging Scientific Picture of World (p. 108). In this paper, I shall consider what set of commitments is needed to secure this reconciliatory naturalist view. In particular, I shall examine O'Connor's recent case for claim that reconciliatory naturalist should be committed (at least) to following:
