Abstract
Study Objective: To determine the prevalence of endometriosis in women undergoing laparoscopic surgery for other indications. Background: Based on studies conducted in the 1980's and 1990's, the prevalence of endometriosis in the general population has been estimated at approximately 4-7% (Sangi-Haghpeykar, H. and Pointdexter A. Epidemiology of endometriosis among parous women. Obstet Gynecol 1995 Jun; 85(6): 983-92). These data were collected before surgeons knew there were typical and atypical appearing endometriosis lesions.
