Abstract

It is a prospective study of fatal two wheelers accident cases brought at Indira Gandhi Government GeneralHospital & Post Graduate Institute, Puducherry. Amongst 118 cases, 79.66% were male whereas 20.33%were female. Highest numbers of victims were in the age group of 36-55 years, accounting for 45 (38.13%).There was a higher rate of head and neck injuries in the present study followed by head, neck & lowerlimb and head, neck & upper limb. Numbers of people who succumb to two wheeler accidents are on anincreasing trend in India. Fatality rates among the people involved in RTA shows an alarming increase.It was observed that violating the traffic rules is found to be the major contributory factor and men andteenagers are the most common people involved in these accidents. Measures to prevent these accidents anddecrease the mortality rates in these situations includes strict adherence to traffic rules.
