Abstract

Objectives: The mechanism by which the OC prevents GnRH-a caused ovarian cyst formation remains unclear. There are at least three possible explanations: by completely abolishing GnRH-a induced gonadotropin flare, by attenuating the flare to the degree that it cannot cause cyst formation; or by a local protective action on the ovary. Understanding the exact mechanism is an essential step in further simplifying both agonist and antagonist driven IVF protocols. In this study we examined the change in hormonal profile of initial GnRH-a induced gonadotropin flare caused by the OC in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), as they demonstrate an exaggerated response to GnRH-a.
