Abstract
outcome of CDI (Figure 1). Validation in a separate cohort of 150 CDI patients demonstrated a similar linear association between higher scores and worse clinical outcome of CDI (Figure 2). In the combined cohort, individuals with a score of 1 had a risk of severe clinical outcomes of 5%, individuals with scores of 2-4 had a risk of severe clinical outcome of 13%, while individual with scores 5-7 had a risk of severe clinical outcome of 36%. Conclusions: We derived and validated a clinical prediction rule for severe CDI that can be used to identify high risk patients who will be likely to benefit from early administration of vancomycin.
