Abstract

Rationale: Rich carbohydrate diet may promote insulin resistance through inflammatory processes, leading to loss of muscle mass and physical frailty (PF). While numerous studies have highlighted the role of diet, including energy and protein intakes, in the occurrence of PF, few studies were interested in other macronutrients, such as carbohydrates. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between carbohydrate intake and the risk for PF among elderly community-dwellers.
