Abstract
Infrastructure development plays an important role in promoting the fulfillment of peoples’ basic need for food, fuel, clothing, shelter, environment protection, safety and security. Civil engineering professionals are extensively involved in different infrastructure development activities. The objective of this study was to assess the adoption of innovative behavior, using the diffusion of innovation theory (DOI). Civil Engineering degree and diploma graduates who had not yet started their professional careers were selected for the study. A trend analysis was conducted from the data and Rogers’ classes of the adopters were isolated, which fell in four groups. The results showed that DOI can be applied to evaluate adoption levels of different groups of adopters. The study also established the procedure for the trend analysis of data that allows deriving meaningful inferences from the composite intelligence of groups and grades/levels of adoptions within the sub groups. The procedure and steps devised in this study are also applicable for assessing the adoption of innovations for human resources management and extension methods applied are useful for imparting lessons on innovations.
