Abstract

During the dry season (July-August 1997) eleven samples of soil-plant pairs were collected in the Pau-a-Pique gold deposit, southwestern of Amazonic Craton, about 440 km NW of Cuiaba city. The area contains rocks of Aguapei Group, Rondonian Belt and recent cover. The area has a steep relief covered by thin soils. The vegetation is sparse and predominantly composed of xerophitic shrubs. Two kinds of plant species were sampled, one belonging to the Annonaceae family and the other one to the Piperaceae family. The ashes of these plants and the soils were analysed by INAA and ICP. The highest gold contents are found in the ashes of plants collected in the colluvium soil (white mica, clay minerals and Fe-oxyhydroxides) covering the hydrothermal halo of the deposit. In the soil, the highest gold values are those from eluvium related to the quartz veins. The higher gold values in plants respect to the soils suggest that the plants could be useful to establish hydrothermal targets.

Aspectos fisiográficos

El clima en el oeste de Mato Grosso es caluroso y húmedo con dos estaciones bien definidas, una seca y otra lluviosa. Al este de la Sierra de Pau-a-Pique predominan las milonitas formadas en los granito-gneises de Santa Helena, las cuales son recubiertas junto a la base de la ladera por un depósito aluvial relativamente espeso que posibilita el desarrollo de una densa vegetación del tipo selva tropical amazónica. En la parte superior de la Sierra del Pau-a-Pique las metareniscas miloníticas son recubiertas por un saprolito de poco espesor, constituido por cuarzo, mica blanca, y fragmentos de roca y de vetas de cuarzo. Durante los meses de julio y agosto de 1997, once pares de muestras de suelo-planta fueron recolectados en el área del depósito Pau-a-Pique, en perfiles transversales a la zona de cizallamiento Corredor, desde la parte superior de la sierra hasta el aluvio En todas las muestras estudiadas los niveles de Ag, Cd, Be, Hg, Sc, Sn y Se se sitúan por debajo del límite de detección, y por ello no son discutidos aquí
