Abstract

The fusion thermodynamic properties and condensed phase heat capacities for isomers of fluorotoluene, cresol and toluidine were determined using microcalorimetry. The lower melting points and enthalpies of fusion for the meta isomer are explained by the lower strength of intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The increase in heat capacity in the liquid state and greater significance of the fusion heat capacities for cresol and toluidine indicate molecular association in these compounds.
