Abstract

This paper aims to present alternatives for urban occupation, which could revert or minimize the process of increasing degradation of the hydrographic network and its riverside areas, exposed in a case study for the Moinho watershed, Cuiaba, Mato Grosso. Proposals for land occupation and development and management of infrastructure are formulated based on an evaluation of the magnitude and the spatial patterns of occurring social and environmental impacts of the actual model of urban development. These alternatives are based on the condition of a land parceling scheme, which is articulated with the environment of the local hydrographic microbasins. The quarters pass to be configured as sub-units of microbasins, qualified by its social and environmental characteristics, not as a dispersed and heterogeneous universe of polluting units. In this context it is intended to conserve and rescue the hydrographic landscape through the orientation of leisure activities and community equipments in locations adjacent to areas of permanent preservation functioning as green corridors along the stream network.
