Abstract

Rice has become a priority crop for food security and political stability for the majority of African countries and particularly in West Africa. However, despite the various endeavours and the political will to develop the rice sector, so far local rice production still lags behind food consumption needs of the population in this region. This paper aims at identifying ways to boost rice production in West Africa. The paper reviews the state of rice cultivation in the region and proposes concrete policy measures to boost the rice sector in West Africa.
