Abstract

Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image sizeSummaryWe propose a three-stage model of symptom evolution. The stages (viresccnee and phyllody of floral pieces, floral proliferations, and vegetative growth) were described earlier in Vinca rosea L. infected by a mycoplasma strain (Ma). Here the model is extended to several hosts (Capsicum, Lycopersicum, Sotanum melongena, Datura, Nicoliana, Petunia, Calendula) infected by mycoplasma strains maintained at the Pathology Station (Stolbur C, SM and P of tomato, little leaf of pepper, virescence of pepper, chloranthy of colza, phyllody 3 of clover, viresccnee of marigold, witches broom of Mitracarpus). The host morphogenetic response to invasion follows the same general pattern, but the time scale changes with the strain (shortening of a stage or end of the evolution on another stage). In addition, during partial recoveries, we have seen the pattern followed in reverse, but more rapidly.
