Abstract

This article proposes a new coil arrangement for a four-phase switched reluctance motor (SRM) which can be applied to a 12-slot and its multiple-slot motors. Two patterns of coil arrangement for a four-phase SRM have been proposed. However, these coil arrangements can be applied for eight-slot and its multiple-slot motors because of their magnetic symmetry. The conventional and proposed coil arrangements are compared in a four-phase SRM with 24 slots. The torque and radial force characteristics are compared using finite-element analysis. Finally, the motor efficiency is compared.
