Abstract

A Fabry-Perot-type interference filter for x-rays is proposed, where thin crystal plates are used as Bragg reflectors at normal incidence. The plates are cut from a perfect silicon crystal leaving a thin gap which may be filled with an appropriate immersion liquid. The calculated resolution of the transmitted beam isE/ΔE≈5 × 107, corresponding toΔE≈4 ×10−4 eV. A possible layout of a high-resolution x-ray spectrometer based on Fabry-Perot-type interferometers is discussed.
