Abstract
The new lightning impulse voltage waveform parameters evaluation procedure has been in effect since the introduction of IEC 60060-1:2010. The procedure employs the base curve and the test voltage function to yield the test voltage curve. The procedure has successfully processed IEC 61083-2:2013 TDG curves and has been regarded flawless. This paper clarified the new procedure is perfect only when a recorded waveform has an asymptote of the sum of two exponential function. Authors installed a new impulse generator of 600 kV in the new high voltage hall and noticed that a modern impulse generator’s discharge resistors are not wound inductance free. The generator’s circuit produces waveform cannot be approximated by the base curve specified in IEC 60060-1:2010. This caused heavy error on T1 value. Authors confirmed a flaw in IEC 60060-1:2010, proposed an amendment to the new standard and confirmed its effectiveness.
