Abstract

The aim of this paper is to propose an innovative construction system based on typological character of vernacular architecture and local building materials in the area which is called Cappodocia in Turkey. To use local materials such as pumice, tuff, gypsum, lime, adobe, puzzolan was a traditional approach in the building process of pre-industrial period in Middle Anatolia. With industrialization and its outcomes this process is neglected and could not be developed according to user's needs. Building materials such as brick, cement, sand etc. are widely used in the area, thus local materials and their performance with thermal conditions, their energy-saved charecter either in macro or micro scale have been neglected. Consequently recent spatial formations faced to lose not only physical charecteristics of architecture but also their cultural identity. The tourism activity and its recent evolutions in the last decade arose the need of innovative structure and its important role as a linkage causing to exist interrelatedness between environs.
