Abstract
Despite the great diffusion of the service of video on demand (VoD), two main problems arise at a functional level: to allow the access to the multimedia content and make possible the suitable consumption of that content. These challenges can be addressed from the different dimensions of context configuration for telecommunications services (user, network, device and service), taking into account technologies such as context based recommender systems in the user dimension, and the adaptive DASH streaming in the network and device dimensions. In this paper we propose a VoD service, which is supported in a context-based architecture that considers the different dimensions of the context and is organized into 4 views to know: business, context, functional and implementation. This architecture aims to enrich the functionality of the service and contribute to the two main challenges of the VoD service. The challenge of allow the access to the multimedia content is addressed through the inclusion of a context-based recommendations system, while the challenge of facilitating the suitable consumption of content is addressed through the use of the DASH standard. As future work, it is intended to adapt the architecture of the VoD service to the environment of live broadcast services.
