Abstract

The vertical rigidity of the suspension of freight vehicles is set to be more rigid according to heavy load conditions. However, safety should be improved by suppressing the roll motion while softening the vertical rigidity under light load conditions. Passenger cars use air springs to increase safety. However, freight trains do not use air springs. Therefore, a new anti-rolling device that does not use air springs was proposed. The proposed anti-rolling device uses lightweight carbon fiber reinforced plastic torsion bars. A scale model of the CFRP torsion-bar was built for freight cars and performance tests were carried out. FEM analysis was used to obtain the target shape of the CFRP torsion bar.
