Abstract

This paper presents a Proportional Resonant (PR) and Proportional Integral (PI) based control strategy for single-phase split source inverters (SSI). The SSI topology consists of a specific dc-side and conventional single-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). Since the dc-link voltage of VSI is provided via a boost stage, voltage control of the dc-side capacitor is essential for SSI. The proposed approach is structured to control the dc-link voltage by two cascaded PI controllers. The outer loop of the cascaded structure generates the reference input current and the modulation parameter for dc-side is generated by the inner loop. On the other hand, control of the ac-side voltage is achieved by PR controller which generates a modulation signal. The combined control strategy guarantees the zero steady-state error for dc and ac-sides by PI and PR controllers, respectively. The performance of the proposed control strategy is validated by simulations. The results show that the proposed strategy successfully regulates the dc and ac-side variables under both linear and nonlinear loads. Furthermore, the proposed approach offered a satisfactory dynamic response in transient states.
