Abstract

The Jesuit school in Orduna, though one of the last foundations in the Basque Country, follows the classical pattern of indiano sponsorship: a local benefactor, capital consolidated on trade and on services to the Crown, and a design supervised from overseas, in this particular case from Peru. This essay provides some keys to these issues and goes into greater detail in looking at the formation of the patrimony of the Society of Jesus in this town in Biscay until they were expelled by order of King Charles III.
