Propiedades biológicas de Pedilanthus tithymaloides: una alternativa natural de tratamiento

Abstract

Using medicinal plants and experimentation of their components is an ancestral practice used in treating various types of disease, which has become very important. The purpose of this article is to review biological properties provided by active compounds of Pedilanthus tithymaloides , this being one of the most studied species, demonstrating various therapeutic properties. A literary review was made both in Spanish and English language at data bases such as EBSCO, Scopus, Science Direct, Academic Google, Pub Med, Redalyc, Springer , and Scielo , which led to expand on importance of compounds of this plant for health care. Among the biological characteristics attributed to this plant, the following were found: Antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, anti-pyretic, antioxidant, antitumor activity. Finally, the little efficacy of some synthetic medications to cure various diseases has led to research natural origin products, such as the case of Pedilanthus tithymaloides specie; the great capability of components of this plant was demonstrated, and in addition, they may be used for various purpose.
