Abstract
OBJECTIVE: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) affect uterine bleeding. The objective of this study was to determine whether controlled-release subantimicrobial dose (CRSD) doxycycline, an MMP inhibitor, administered prophylactially, decreases unscheduled bleeding associated with initiation of a continuously-dosed oral contraceptive pill (OCP).
