Abstract

After a remotivation of the model, it is shown that it is possible to incorporate vibrational effects in calculating the properties of the solitons of the Skyrme model. This formalism is applied to the calculation of properties of the low-lying baryonic solitons of the Skryme model. The only parameters entering in the theory are F π and m π . The mass of the proton in the massless pion limit is 5.62 F π = 1045 MeV.
