Abstract

Special propylene-ethylene copolymer (PEC) and polypropylene (PP) fiber grade materials were blended through the melt-compounding method to prepare the PP/PEC blends in varying proportions. Subsequently, further analysis was carried out on the crystallinity, dispersibility, mechanical properties and flexibility of the PP/PEC blends. The results haven shown that PEC is uniformly dispersed in the PP matrix, whereas the size of the PEC particle is relatively smaller. Moreover, as the content of PEC increases, the crystallization temperature of the PP/PEC blends (T cp) would experience increases accordingly. In addition, the Young’s modulus and the tensile strength of the PP/PEC blends would experience decreases with evident increases in the impact strength. Last but not least, the softness of PP would experience increases to a certain extent with the addition of PEC.
