Abstract

The significant structure theory of liquids has been used to calculate the thermodynamic and transport properties of molten sodium chloride, sodium bromide, sodium iodide, potassium chloride, and potassium iodide taking account of the pressure correction, P′ = P(1− α′) by the dimerization of alkali halide molecules in the vapor phase. Good results were obtained and an explanation of the large volume expansion on melting of molten salts was suggested.
