Abstract

The properties of static neutron stars (NSs) are studied with a set of new equations of state based on the extended Skyrme interactions in the Hartree-Fock many-body theory. Two satisfactory Skyrme interactions, SKM and SG2, lead to maximum masses of M max = 1.7 M ⊙ and M max = 1.67 M ⊙, respectively. Other NS properties, like gravitational redshift and moment of inertia, are calculated and are found to be also consistent with the observations and glitch models. The cooling of neutron stars in the authors' calculations can only undergo the modified Urca processes corresponding to a slow cooling. Calculations were also made for two other kinds of three-body force, AV14+TBF and Paris+TBF, for comparison.
