Abstract

Excited states of 102Pd have been populated via inelastic proton scattering and Coulomb excitation with 16O. We used pγ angular correlation measurements to construct a level scheme and to assign angular momenta, γ-ray multipolarities, and B(E2) ratios. Several new levels up to an excitation energy of 3 MeV have been observed, including a level at 1658 keV which is interpreted as the missing 0 + state of the two-phonon triplet. The 2 +' → 2 +, 2 +'' → 2 + and 3 + → 2 + transitions of 978, 1388 and 1556 keV were found to be essentially pure quadrupole radiations. The Coulomb excitation work yields B(E2, 0 + → 2 +) = 0.46±0.03 e 2 · b 2 and an estimate for the static quadrupole moment of the first 2 + state of −0.2±0.2 e · b.
