Abstract

It is shown that field cooling of specimens of high purity chromium induces two-fold symmetric anisotropy in magnetic susceptibility below the spin flip temperature, and in magnetoelasticity (i.e. the reversible change of Young's modulus as a function of applied magnetic field) in the temperature range between the spin flip and Neel temperatures.
