Abstract

Beryl crystals were grown under high pressure hydrothermal condition of 1 GPa. The optimum crystal growth was observed at 600°C and from 0.1N NaOH solution. The beryl crystals from 0.1–0.3N NaOH solutions incorporated water molecules and alkali cations in the channels of the beryl structure. The crystals showed same refractive indices and density as those of natural emerald crystals. These physical properties were very similar to natural emeralds.
